DAY 1 - WINDHOEK TO ETOSHA

You will be collected at the Coliving Space at 07:15 and transferred to Chameleon Safaris Headquarters for a short pre-departure meeting.

Heading north from Windhoek, we stop briefly at the small town of Otjiwarongo to gather some last-minute supplies before continuing on to Etosha and we enjoy a light lunch pack whilst “on the move”. We enter Etosha National Park and game drive our way to our campsite at Okaukuejo. Etosha is huge, just over 22,000 square km and is home to 114 species of mammal, 350 species of bird, 110 species of reptile, uncountable numbers of insect and, somewhat bizarrely, one species of fish. There are good chances of spotting many of these different creatures one our first game drive in the afternoon.

All visitors must be back in camp at sunset, but the ‘game show’ doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Assessable on foot and only a short walk from our campsite, Okaukuejo is justly famous for its flood-lit waterhole where we are afforded the chance to see all of Etosha’s treasures. Big cats, elephant and the whole spectrum of smaller game, but in particular, this is our best chance of getting up close to a black rhino. Namibia is the last stronghold of these critically endangered creatures but here, at Okaukuejo, they are regular visitors.

Included Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Distance: 510 km drive

FAQ'S

  • First you book and pay your coliving stay with us. Afterwards we will send you a booking link to book and pay your desired weekend getaways. Latest 30 days prior to your coliving stay you need to finalize your weekend getaway booking. Due to logistical reasons from the tour operator site we need to know the amount of people joining by then.

  • Yes, the campsites in Namibia are very well equipped. You have running water, toilets, showers, sometimes a pool, and sometimes electricity. Some campsites even have little shops to buy snacks and cold drinks and a restaurant. Only at Spitzkoppe camp we do wildcamping, with one night no shower and toilet. In this case the bush becomes your "loo with a view".

  • Yes, we share the tents on default. We assign genders to share a tent. Single tents are possible but limited due to limited storage space. We charge extra for single tents.

  • There are options to get a single tent for an extra charge. We are limited in taking single tents along due to storage reasons. First come first serve.

  • Tapwater in Windhoek is in general drinkable. However, as there can be very occasional contamination due to heavy rainfall, for example, we recommend every guest to buy a 5 litre canister of water in the supermarket and take it with them on tour. Additional water can be purchased in the campsite shop at each campsite each day.

  • Yes we can cater for vegetarians and vegans on the tours.

  • No, we do not enter any Malaria risk areas on our weekend getaways. Exceptions can appear on our bigger Nomad Safari tours. There are no mandatory vaccinations needed to enter Namibia.

  • We provide everything that is needed to have a camping tour: tents, foam mattresses (no inflatable airbeds), sleeping bags, chairs, cutlery, bbq, and lots of sunshine!

  • Our weekend getaways are for camping lovers in the first place. If you are sceptical if this is for you but you are open to this new experience, we recommend you to embrace the adventure and join at least one getaway as it is a great bonding experience for the community.

  • No, the weekend getaways are not made to plan time in for work. Please leave your laptop at the coliving space. Please also do not expect the best reception. There might be no network at all while the getaways. Embrace the digital detox!

OUR TOUR GUIDE

One of Buschmann Safaris local Namibian tour guides will safely guide you through Namibia and help in adventurous cases of flat tires & getting stuck.

  • No specific vaccinations are mandatory for entering Namibia, but consulting your doctor is recommended. Malaria is only present in the northern region. Windhoek and our weekend getaway locations are situated in malaria-free zones. If you do decide to travel further, you can get Malaria tablets in Windhoek during your stay with a prescription.

  • Yes, this is an option, but we are limited to single tents, due to limited storage space. For the use of a tent as single tent there is an extra charge of 340 N$ (17 €). We allocate single tents to those who request them first.

  • You can either share a tent with your bestie from the coliving gang or we assign a coliving mate to you with whom you will share a tent. We will only mix gender if it is approved by both sides.

  • Yes, sleeping bags and pillows are included in the price. We help you color-mark your pillow and sleeping bag for you during the tour.

  • You like being out in nature, you're looking forward to an adventure, you're aware that camping doesn't mean a pure wellness and relaxation, you look forward pitching a tent under the African night sky. You are fine with making a plan B when needed, pull the car out of the sand, change a tire and at night prefer a campfire dinner with good conversation over a luxury lodge restaurant.

  • Due to logistic reasons (We need a minimum number of participants) and reserving campsites in time (especially in camping high season) we need you to book your desired weekend getaways 4 weeks prior to the start of your stay with us.

  • Yes, this is a collective adventure, we are a team helping each other and the tour guide (Pitching tents, cooking, washing dishes). Be kind and help wherever there is something to do.

  • Yes, the mattresses we provide are about 5 cm thick foam mattresses for a comfortable sleep.

  • No, the weekend getaways are not supposed to be working days. Please take these days off and leave your laptop in the coliving space. There might hardly be any reception during the tour.
